Who Has A Safe, Reliable, Presentable Reasonably Priced Vehicle For Sale - October 1, 2009, 04:13 PM

NEW PRICE CAP 6-OCT-09: $10K or below.

Ok troops. Here's the deal, got a call from a female friend of mine.

After throwing tons of money her car to keep it going - it finally ate it today. Engine blew. Kaput.

So who / who do you know who has a reasonably priced car for sale and maybe wants to help out a working single Mom? She has a job that requires her to travel all over DMV and meet with/take out clients and be on-site for her events. Then she has to hustle the kidlet to aftercare, weekend classes, etc.so she's freaking out a bit right now.

I know beggars can't necessarily be chooser, but here are some ideals:

- Ideally below $8,000 (higher is fine depending on model and condt.)

- Ideally a 2000 or later.

- No SUVs or Pick-Up trucks. She has to drive and park in the city a lot. (Mini SUVs like Escape or Crossovers like the RX300 are Ok)

- Clear Title

- 4 Doors

- Automatic

- Reliable and not abused. No fixer-uppers please, unless it's something minor like needs a brake job, radio doesn't work, or window motor needs to be replaced but ideally, it must be ready to drive right to the shop and emissions station and pass inspections.

- Presentable. No large panel damage, bad paint, or a raggy/dirty/ripped interior. (She has to meet with and take out clients)

- Heat and A/C must work (again, the kid and client thing)

...just trying to collect as many leads as possible and I'll help her whittle through them since I know cars.

Typing too fast and had something else on my mind. That should have been $5K or lower.

2002 Silver Honda Accord, good shape, automatic, 4cyl, lower than average mileage, no issues, loaded. The only thing this car does not have is ABS. Price is in the upper end of your range. PM if interested.

Yeah, I think she can. Like I said $5K was just a very comfortable baseline and gives her wiggle room. I'm sure she can go a bit higher if the deal and the car is right.

She just left town to visit family (one of the reasons she freaking). I'd told her I'd cast a wide net over the weekend and just whittle down with her when she gets back early next week.

The Jetta and Volvo sound very promising. Keep cars like that in mind if you come across anything else.

And thank you.

No ABS...hmmmmm....
Admittedly, she's a shitty driver.
She definitely needs ABS and airbags.

Same reason my GF is getting rid of it. Why in the world ABS wasn't standard on these cars is beyond me. It's got the airbags, but she's had a couple of sketchy moments braking on wet pavement. Personally, however, I think it's more because of a couple of budget tires she has on there.

It's an Accord, you know what you're looking at on this. A well-kept, never-smoked-in, 1-owner, adult female-driven Honda that's below typical miles for the age is not easy to find.

If she can finance these two are clean. I may be able to resource some more cars. You're welcome!

Ok, so she re-recorrected herself. It's $8K and below as the benchmark.

Manual for her is no bueno.
I could try to teach her to drive stick, but I know she'd rag the clutch in a month, or worse, just crash.
