Talking Who says you need a weapon to subdue a criminal! - October 7, 2006, 04:20 PM

MARTINSBURG, WV- A daily routine for a Martinsburg man almost turned into a boxing match at a local gas station. The winner walked out a champion and a hero.

I frantically told him that please stay still Im a professional boxer and that I didn't want to hit him, but I would, said Perry Ballard, Professional Boxer.

39-year-old Perry Ballard didn't expect to say those words to a thief at Sheetz in Martinsburg. After a taxi cab driver yelled help, Ballards professional boxing career came in handy.

When I told him I was a boxer, his eyes got pretty big and said don't hit me, said Ballard.

Ballard, a world middleweight boxer, said when he saw the robber run out of Sheetz with a bag of money, he noticed the 200-pound man didn't have a weapon.

He tried to get a way at first, but when we hit the ground, we kind of flipped over and I landed right back on top of him and I grabbed his shirt and his neck and I just put my fist up and I said I don't want to hurt you, said Ballard.

Ballard said it was the first time he has ever threatened to harm someone out of the ring, but he is glad that he made the right decision.

I knew that if I didn't get him down now that he would get away, so I took a nice leap and took him down, said Ballard.

After police arrested the robber, nearly $500 was given back to the cab driver. The man Ballard knocked down was 22-year old Jason Ennis of Martinsburg. Police arrested Ennis and took him to the Eastern Regional Jail.

If convicted, Ennis will face up to a year in jail.

This happen about a 2 miles from my house. Channel 7 news did a story on it as well.
I think the funniest thing would have been, is if he actually got knocked out.
And the police roll up up, and say " Man what happen to you, looks like you got KNOCK the FAK out, Maaaaaaaaaaaan!"

"If brains were gas. You wouldnt have enough gas, to drive a piss-ants' motorcycle, half-way around a BB."
