WIFI and PS3 geeks, help! - August 1, 2008, 03:39 PM

Ok so here is the deal -

I am attempting to get the PS3 up and running on the wireless connection since I don't have a cable drop in the room where it's located. I get the SSID and the WEP code, tests and operates fine. Browser works and so on. But when I go to download the required update, it just shuts down the whole WIFI connection after anywhere between 7-20% of the download of 12MB.

Sooooo whiskey-tango-foxtrot?

Does your wireless router have uPNP enabled? You'll need that for certain features.

If you're having problems, there's instructions on the Playstation 3 website for how to do the update via a USB key, too.

Ok - so I went through the test connection again...

Obtain IP - Succeeded
Internet Connection - Succeeded
Playstation Network - Succeeded
UPnP - Not Available
NAT Type - Type 2

It did the same thing again while I did this, I was watching the connection intformation window on my laptop and it dropped it down to 1.0mbps... Is the PS3 really that much of a bandwidth hog?

Right now, there are only two on there? How did you fix it?

Try this- remove all items that are sharing the wifi except the ps3 and re-do, if that doesnt work check your signal strength. Is your router b or g?

Go to your router's configuration page and enable uPNP or you will have problems doing the on-line gaming, especially if you have the router's firewall turned on.

uPnp is done, assigned a static IP as well.... doing the same thing.... there is no device load on the system, but once I go to test the connection the PS3, it dumps all the bandwidth on the G router.

Completely stumped.

change channel on router to a different one.. sounds like your channel is swamped. make sure its connecting at 54MB(g) not 11MB(b). If its connecting at 802.11b, any download will swamp the connection.

If the router is set to do both B/G is that most likely the issue? Its also on channel 9....
