Window Tint Ticket - April 19, 2010, 04:15 PM

FIRST OFF...I KNOW the tint is illegal....ok now i got that out of the way.(dont bash me...i will delete your posts if you do )

So we got a window tint ticket the other day.
Front window tint measured at 28% by VSP.

I was thinking if this would hold up in court. I have a receipt from the company that installed my tint. all my info is on there with the car info. it states the percentage of the tint in the front and the rear windows. it shows the price i paid.

Technically...and theoretically speaking, they should have never given me a receipt right? Would it hold up in court if I said i didnt know the law, the installers never warned me it was illegal tint. They DID give me a receipt which makes it a legal transaction.

I'll probably just end up prepaying it...but do I have a shot of fighting it in court?

PS...it was nt our car we were driving..it was our parents car.

Just pay the ticket.....good luck trying to fight window tint tickets. You knew it was illegal and got caught shit happens....if you try and fight it you will most likely have to show you removed said tint as well, which if you have it removed then reinstalled (to legal %) you are going to be out even more money, then if you just prepaid it and hope you dont get popped again for it.

So if I sold you some crack but gave you a receipt, and later you got busted with the crack, you feel like you should just be able to show the receipt and not be in trouble?

I thought violation "fix it" type tickets like that go to the registered car owner, not the driver.

That said, yeah, you don't have a chance of fighting it unless the shop receipt can prove the tint they put on your windows was of legal % and you get a sign affadavit from the shop attesting to this.

I always thought it was a secondary violation . . . apparently not. I got a ticket in my STi a couple weekends back. Just pay it. BTW you can get an exemption if you get a specific form (attached) signed by your doctor and you submit it to DMV. It only allows up to 35% in the front though.

Just pay it and make mommy and daddy shell it back to you!! It's a no points violation and not worth the headache.

I'm curious, is there ANYTHING VA doesn't give you a ticket for?
It's almost depressing the amount of ticketing I read on this board.

I'm being nice and not making any derogatory remarks about virginia.

I wonder if you get your tint fixed whether the judge will drop it. I sat through a bunch of cases at the Fairfax Hotel last year, some similar to this one. Judgey typically dropped the charge when a receipt for work to fix the problem was presented plus a police inspection to verify it follows guidelines. So decide whether several hours away from work is worth more or less than the cost of the ticket and choose wisely.
