Windows Backup FYI - March 2, 2012, 11:52 AM

C:\Windows\System32>wbadmin start recovery -version:03/01/2012-21:44 -itemType:Volume -items:e: -backupTarget:\\server\xcopy -recoveryTarget:\\server\xdrive -overwrite:overwrite -quiet
DOES NOT read the -recoveryTarget flag when doing a "VOLUME" restore.

Symantec's stuff has it's own "quirks."

Just the other day it swore up and down that it had backed up all my VM snapshots. Yet a few were conspicuously empty.

WBadmin was our last resort.

copy/paste didnt work. Sub level folders are past 254 char limit error..
xcopy same error
robocopy same error

symantec restore wouldnt restore to a share that i had. got tired of messing with it.

WBadmin works.. just i hate command line and the results were fabulous!

Switch to Veeam. It works better than Symantec IMO.

Yeah I know how that works. Functionality seems to always go under cost.

We are contemplating Veeam, so you giving it the big thumbs up? Are you replicating offsite or just using it for local stuff? How is the Veeam with file level restores etc? We will be 100% server Virtualized on Vsphere5 within a month or so.

You write that as if someone puts thought into it.

I envision a dart board and blind folds.

We are moving to 5 here soon. How is it going? Anything better to write home about?

Hmm.. I like that I don't have the 2TB LUN size limitation, in 5 there is no more ESX, only ESXi.... I honestly haven't delved into much of the differences though yet. We've been doing a full overhaul (new servers/storage/desktops/ERP System....etc.. so it's been a hectic time)
