Winter Supplies... - February 9, 2010, 10:10 AM

I torqued my shovel last night and eventually it snapped in half...lesson learned only buy wooden handle shovels....

Any one know a place to get a new one...(and salt)???

Home Depot and Lowes are all out in woodbridge...and springfield....

Was gonna try Fischer's in springfield but they are prob out as well.. need a low key spot.

There's a shovel in the back of my truck burried under about 2 feet of snow. It's not a cheap one like you get around the DC area... if you will put it back, I'll PM you the info of where it's parked and you can borrow it.

Don't know where you are, but if you can get to Bethesda these guys had a shit ton of them yesterday when I walked by.

Every kind too - bent handle/egro. Old school metal scrapper. Big scoop type. And plenty of ice melt too.

Bent handle no good? Since when? If you buy a good one with a strong pole/handle and reinforced mounting to the blade, they're money.

Flame throwers, I've seen them used before but there's always a problem - they create a TON of ice and black ice because you're not displacing it - you're simply turning it all to water.

Pick your poison.

fischers hardware in springfield has shovels but they are selling like hot cakes for 14 bucks and they are pieces of shit, for some odd reason my dad, who has like 8 perfectly good durable shovels, went out and bought two today, the things are pieces of trash, will definitely break in about 12 milliseconds

No chance you can rig it to hold up until the stores stock more shovels?

They suck b/c the amount of snow that I was shoveling with it (6.5ft high with chunks of ice...) all of the weight just torqued the shovel AT THE BEND....it was a quality shovel...forgot where I got it..very well consturcted but I mean I was shovelling an A LOT of snow and it just couldn't take it.....Plus those types of shovels jack your back up just by the way you stand to use it...I'd rather have a straight handle...
