Working Out - December 10, 2007, 03:29 PM

The winter time is here. People are drinking even more during football season, Friday and Saturday night hangouts, COD4 playing or whatever you do. Some of you will be doing resolutions to workout to get the seasonal weight off. Where are you working out? How long will you workout and will you get in shape for the riding season next year. Be well, safe and stay healthy.

I'm doing some physical therapy right now, but I will be hitting the Herndon YMCA (if I can get a job teaching swimming) or the Worldgate fitness center. Probably three times a week. Get some swimming in too, hopefully.

ALL MY HEROES ARE RUSSIAN...GO CAPS!

Well you see, Norm, it’s like this…A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.-Cliff Claven

Running in the mornings 3-4 x a week, lifting in the afternoons at the Pentagon Gym 5 x a week, and teaching Martial Arts every other week. I should be good.

On a side note, I am a personal trainer so if anyone has any questions feel free to shoot me a pm.

I'll be getting myself into the gym, I need to be able to run 3 miles in < 18 minutes, 20 pullups, 100 push ups, 100 situps. Then I need to learn how to properly swim.

I plan on losing 20 lb's, we'll see how it goes.

good point, G-Dog.

to all the new racers next year out there especially,

you should seriously consider being in good shape before the season starts. that means working out now.

personally, I do lift/stretch days 3x a week, cardio 3x a week all in the am and all at Golds'. I wish I could find the time to get back into swimming.

I'm 11 lbs down from the end of last season, but i have to lose 17 more lbs by the end of Jan. I am a fat bastard. I hate my diet.

I'm horrible at running. I'm overtired/overworked after a 9:43 mile. I need to get to this level though.

Every 7 pounds of bodyweight equals about 1 horsepower for a racer.
So, if the average American gains 7 pounds between Halloween and New Years Day,
then... the average American gains about 1 horsepower over the holidays!
That's cheap horsepower! ...unless you eat-out most nights.

Proceed with caution, because an 'above-average' American probably won't fit into his or her leathers in February.

sounds like Marine Corps PT minus the push ups. Sub 18 3 milers are hard to come by but not impossible, just gotta work for it. Believe it or not, I keep mine under 18 by doing a lot of interval training on the elliptical.

Strict diet..Cycling on rollers usually consist of extended sprints, intervals, spinning...varies. I do this every other day then have some strength exercises, coordination exercises, and a specific weight routine...it's rather crazy

As others said...especially those racing or riding trackdays...be sure your cardio is up to par...that second that you lose concentration is most likely when you'll end up crashing, losing a position etc...etc...

The way I see it...08 season started the moment I pulled in from my last race in 07.

Been eating at Outback and Five Guys a lot.
Hope I'll still be to ride next year.
