World's Most Expensive Car (again) - October 4, 2013, 08:25 AM

This is why I'd go broke if I won the lottery

Fox-A classic car was recently sold in a private transaction for a staggering $52 million.

Citing anonymous sources with knowledge of the sale, Bloombergreports that the rare 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO was owned by noted Connecticut based car collector Paul Pappalardo, and likely sold to a Spanish collector.

If accurate, it was the highest known price ever paid for an automobile, smashing the record set by another Ferrari 250 GTO last year, which went for a reported $35 million.

When contacted by Bloomberg, Pappalardo had no comment.

The 250 GTO was a street legal racing car that cost less than $20,000 when new. Pappalardo purchased the car in 1974 for an unknown price and has entered it in several historic racing events over the years.

A total of 39 250 GTOs were built from 1962 to 1964 and just 36 are known to exist. No two are exactly the same.

Prices for the cars have skyrocketed in recent years following an $18 million sale in 2010 (shown above.)

To be no fucks given wealthy must feel wonderful.

Agreed. But then again, they probably actually give no fucks...

We would absolutely love and cherish this car, a person with 'no fucks given money' is probably like:

"eh, *yawn* yea its ok. Put it in the back of the storage room."

Ummm, that car was raced. A lot. By it's (now) previous owner... It didn't just sit in storage. Turns out a lot of the 250 GTO guys run them, and pretty hard too. There was one at Summit a few years ago. Hard to beat the sound of an old Ferrari 12

@HenryW: I'm 100% sure it was and I really hope it continues to be! My comment was a general statement about people with too much money just buying things because they can.

Ex: The Minister of Finance for Brunei (until 1997) Prince Jefri had 100's of Porsche's, Ferraris, Mercedes, Rolls Royce's, McLaren's, ect ... That all sat in storage and are still sitting in storage.
Some of the storage rooms get so hot in the desert heat that:
"...the foam padding in the steering wheel had melted and had formed a puddle of melted foam in the front seat..."

here's the article to which i'm referring.
The Sultan of Brunei's rotting supercar collection

$52 million dollars is like $500 to some people i guess... haha. Cool Car though!

Exactly. The purported selling price is enough to buy TWO Citation X's, a Bugatti Veyron, a LaFerrari, a Porsche 918, and an Aventador, and still have $2 Million leftover for a Yacht.

it's all relative. Just think what your new Ducati cost vs. your net worth or annual income. This is just a shiny toy to some billionaire. Sweet ass car though.

I disagree

For someone who collects Ferraris, classics, super cars, or really any cars the 250 is the holy grail.

You could have all the f40's in the world but your collection ain't shit until there's a 250 GTO in it.

'04 F4i - Sold
'12 ZX6r

I would (and I assume most billion ears have employees) give 2600 Panigales or 4600 R1s to employees and have some kind of company picking. More excitement = more happiness produces more $. Better investment in my opinion, than waiting for another egoist to pay $100,000,000 for my car.

For that money I'd rather have a few F1 cars instead, but I gotta admit that is a sweet car.
