WTB: Cheap Daily Driver for a friend - Have about $2k - September 21, 2015, 08:39 PM

Hey guys,

I am trying to help a good friend of mine looking for a cheap reliable DD. He got abut $2k, might be able to come up with a bit more, it depends on the car I suppose.

I told him DCSB could be a gem sometimes so I'll post this up for him. Let me know if any one of you got something that I should pass along to my buddy.

Thanks in advance!

I'll be selling my 2000 jetta TDI soon. Auto. Gets 40+mpg. Great car. I upgraded to a Passat TDI recently. Looking for $3000 on Craigslist. Would let it go for $2800. Lots of new parts.

Then again... That's just me.

Is this the one you converted to run on WVGO?

What year Passat? If the B7/B8 with the "cheat code" engine, me, I'd be sweating a bit. Who knows how this dieselgate thing is going to shake out.

Are states going to issue a conditional waiver for owners though their ownership period, a 2-year exemption, or flunk it and say tough luck get a new car.

Yes. Although all the WVO equipment has been out for about 3 years now. Along with the replacing of most of the parts that saw WVO.
The mk4 jetta (99.5 to 03) with the ALH engine is regarded as the best TDI engine ever made.

Time will tell with dieselgate. DC and MD don't do emissions testing on diesels (a quick google search says only 9 states currently test diesel passenger car emissions). Although states might start after this fiasco. So I'm not sure. There are already loopholes in place for gas engines that wont pass emissions. So I assume something along those lines will happen. But we're talking about the government here. Logic and reason have no place in their decision making.

Small, inconsequential factoid.. B7 is only sold overseas. The North American Passat is designated NMS. They are similar, but not the same.
