WTF are with tassles? - July 25, 2009, 08:57 AM

Why the heck do people put tassles on their bikes, specifically on their handlebar ends?! Seems to me like all they would do is flop around in the wind and irritate your forearms!

Ha ha! Ass!
Seriously, though, what is their origin? Their original purpose? Even the health challenged and now ornamental dachshund had original purpose of chasing rabbits and other prey into burrows! So what's the history of the tassles?

I think it's a lingering remnant of the overall style in the 60's/70's. My dad had a chopper with a Conan the Barbarian type guy airbrushed on the tank and tassles on his handle bars and a brown suede jacket with tassles that ran down the arm and across the middle of the back.

Didn't you have tassles on your bicycle as a child? Both of my daughter's bikes came with tassles.

It's to allow for water to escape when it raining (at least with with jackets w/ tassels).

Irritate your forearms? Watch out the Squid Police are out in full force. If you had a jacket on and riding 10 miles under the speed limit it wouldn't bother you.

I usually save tassles just for my nipples.

Why do folks put tassels on their bikes?

That's easy. So they can tell when they're actually moving.
