They most likely are trying to sell through stock of current phone models.

Such sought after phones kill every other phones sale, so makes that inventory useless.

And who knows if they are going to change the processor for US carriers like they did the Galaxy Note.

Good god. It sounds like a good idea until you actually have to live with that thing day in and day out; I loved the idea of the galaxy note until I held it in my hand.

the fact that most foreign countries run on similar networks also helps. In the us each carrier uses different frequencies. Even T-mobile has a different 3g frequency than at&t.

Then throw in the fact that carriers over here brand their phones, lock it down, and put bloatware on it.
Then they have the never to over charge you! I am considering that phone, but will wait to see what the next iphone does. I would probably get it unlocked and just go with a small company that uses AT&T's towers.
i'm not spending 700 on a phone though. lol

Exactly.

Your complaints notwithstanding, I wonder how many Americans would be willing to shell out $800 for a phone the way people have to pretty much every where else.

lol you win. so folks do spend a lot of money. their even spending more since companies are charging an early upgrade fee.

i got lucky. I brought my iphone 4 back in october 2010. 4 months after it was released. (I didn't really want an iphone but my android pissed me off soo much that i switched)

Then they released the 4s a year later instead of june. It wasn't worth upgrading to. Now their gonna release the iphone 5/6 this october. wait a month for the bugs to get worked out, and then i can determine whether to upgrade.

I purchased my iPhone 4 @ $199 (+tax) and sold it for $340 1.5 years later. Same case for the iPhone 3G I had before it and I'm certain the 4S will be no exception. I'd like to see that done with an Android phone.

IMO, the 4S was every bit worth the upgrade if upgrade eligibility was available. My 4S operates WAY better than my wifes 4 in every single aspect. Example, she waits a few seconds for HD pictures while I can continue snapping.

Failing to update means you're paying subsidized fees for a contract free phone while you wait for the next desirable replacement.

And, I had absolutely no day to day issues with my 4S when it was released, if anything I've seen others experience more issues when the previous generation phone running the latest updates.

I'm not a fan-boy (I own android devices as well), I just like using a fast, reliable phone.

Yes, I remember when the Iphone cost 400 or 500... And I also remember that almost no one had it. It's only when they came down to contract price that they really took off.

And $400-500 is still a lot cheaper than $800.

It's cool, Apple will come out with an iPad that is a phone, and crush the competition, again.
