X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) - October 1, 2012, 07:36 PM

More info to come on this....
X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) - IMDb

Quote:
Days of Future Past, by the dynamic duo of Chris Claremont and John Byrne, was a two-issue tale from all the way back in 1981. It tells the story of a future where mutants have been hunted into near-extinction, while the current-timeline version of the team works with the future Kitty Pryde to prevent a political assassination that will ultimately lead to that very gloomy future for the X-Men. And Yes, it has Sentinels!!

Since it was revealed that Matthew Vaughn's sequel to X-Men: First Class would be titled Days of Future Past, speculation has been running rampant that time travel will factor into the film (thereby meaning the return of some, or all, of the cast members from the original trilogy). Patrick Stewart has repeatedly hinted at a possible return as Professor Xavier, despite being killed off in Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand. However, an after-credits scene DID show him waking up in the body of a coma patient. Well, now it's Famke Janssen who seems to be dropping subtle hints about making a return as Jean Grey!

So now they're drawing together the two different series.
Interesting. I'd like to see how they can make the script cohesive and sensible.

The original X-Men film trilogy featured its titular mutant heroes sporting black leather costumes, designs that fans of the books met with mixed feelings. For the prequel X-Men: First Class, director Matthew Vaughn went with colorful, more practical designs that honored the original Marvel Comics.

With X-Men: Days of Future Past, a film that merges the trilogy with First Class, Bryan Singer returns to the director’s chair and has promised “no leather suits.” So, what do we get instead?

In X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine, Jackman sports regular clothing. In Days of Future Past, the story will flip back and forth between the ’70s (so expect time-appropriate attire) and an alternate near-future where giant mutant-hunting Sentinel robots hunt down our favorite heroes and villains. In this era, the X-Men and Brotherhood will sport more practical, slightly futuristic rugged clothing.

Production began on the film last week in Montreal and Bryan Singer tweeted a photo of Patrick Stewart in costume to celebrate the announcement. It was rather similar in aesthetic to today’s new photo of Halley Berry as Storm.

With Berry’s announcement that she’s pregnant with a second child, she says her role is being changed, but the wings on that costume may mean there’s still hope for the powerful mutant to utilize those powers against the Sentinels.

“Storm probably won’t be as badass as she was going to be because we won’t be able to do any fighting or flying or things like that. She’ll be different than we originally planned her to be but I still think she’ll be an integral part of this new X-Men movie.”

The costume is a big step-up however, from the X-Men trilogy get-up. The other interesting news from Twitter comes from Bryan Singer and some of the cast attending a Montreal Canadians game over the weekend. Joining the director were Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Shawn Ashmore and new cast member Adan Canto. Canto had a key role in The Following alongside Ashmore (and another X-Men actor, Kevin Bacon) and will seemingly be playing a mutant. We don’t know who yet, but the actor teased “I might turn into a ball of fire if someone pisses me off.”

Canto is a Mexican-born actor but knowing the franchise’s affinity for ignoring the backgrounds of international characters from Marvel Comics (see: Colossus, Banshee), he could be playing anyone from the Japanese Sunfire (Shiro Yoshida) to the American characters Firefist (Rusty Collins) or Match (Ben Hamill). The most likely candidate however, is the Brazillian Sunspot (Roberto da Costa) who has the power to control solar energy (see below). He’s also got a temper which pays tribute to his hint.

un geek fact: There’s a female character named “Crux” who happens to be use a combination of Iceman and Sunfire’s powers and she’s… a french ice skater (see: Montreal Canadians connection).

With so many characters, separate by (at least) two time periods and many new faces joining the series, we wonder if if they’ll all get their chance to shine, let alone of meaningful dialogue. Most of the Hellfire Club mutants under Kevin Bacon’s command in First Class barely spoke.

Bryan Singer will direct X-Men: Days of Future Past with newcomers Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Boo Boo Stewart and Fan Bingbing, along with returning stars Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore.

The Wolverine releases July 26, 2013, X-Men: Days of Future Past on July 18, 2014 and Fantastic Four on March 6, 2015.

Please oh please Hollywood get this one right. So many ways they can screw this up but please get it right. This is one of the best storyline's from the X-Men books.

I am hoping they pick the best from both eras....

use the younger professor X and Magneto...but bring them into modern times along with beast....
that way you can make new movies with a young xmen that looks right...and it can be current...

‘The Wolverine’ & ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Get Surprise Cameos

After the series of confirmations from cast and crew, namely director Bryan Singer, that the X-Men: First Class followup would attempt to adapt the time travel tale Days of Future Past, every actor who had a role in the X-Men trilogy was asked at every opportunity whether they’d be returning. The storyline allows the next X-Men tentpole to feature both the cast from the First Class prequel and the original trilogy via multiple timelines, and the oft complex plot device could also be used to rectify certain continuity and story issues present in the series.

Playing with the concept of time also allows the film to bring back characters who were seemingly killed off in earlier films. For the most part, almost all of the main mutant heroes from the trilogy are returning, alongside the core characters of X-Men: First Class, but there were noticeably a few absentees.

Famke Janssen – despite having a small cameo in The Wolverine – hasn’t been confirmed or announced to return for X-Men: Days of Future Past and no one’s heard from James Marsden – who was robbed of an important role and killed off in the intro of X-Men: The Last Stand- about returning either. Whether or not Jean Grey and Cyclops still have a role to play in the current state of the X-Men film universe remains to be seen, but we can safely expect there to be several guest appearances in Twentieth Century Fox’s upcoming Marvel films. We may already know about two of them.

What lays ahead can be considered possible spoilers on cameos for The Wolverine and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Bryan Singer posts regular behind-the-scenes photos of the set and cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past, a film which began shooting in Montreal two weeks ago. One of his more recent notable photos was that of Halle Berry suited up in a new Storm costume. According to Ray Carsillo, an editor for EGM, Berry was spotted on a flight leaving Montreal. She was sitting beside James Marsden.

Longtime Screen Rant readers may remember back during the production of X-Men: First Class a cab driver claimed to have driven Hugh Jackman from the airport to the hotel for a cameo appearance and that turned out to be 100% accurate. Needless to say, there’s a good chance Cyclops returns in some small capacity for X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Up first on Fox’s upcoming Marvel slate however, is James Mangold’s The Wolverine, a film which was originally intended to feature no other mutants outside of Hugh Jackman’s titular character and was positioned as a standalone story. In a post-Avengers world where big budget superhero films are expected to follow continuity, there’s no way Fox doesn’t take advantage of their biggest star in Hugh Jackman to at least tease what’s next for the franchise.

According to JoBlo, James Mangold and Hugh Jackman were conducting some reshoots over the weekend in a Montreal airport and the scene in question was seemingly designed to serve as a button sequence to tease X-Men: Days of Future Past. It featured Wolverine arriving at an airport- probably returning from his adventures in Japan – and time freezing as Professor X (Patrick Stewart) walks in with him. Yes, the dead professor from X-Men: The Last Stand and yes, walking. If the report proves true, it’s likely the Days of Future Past version of Professor X from an alternate post-apocalyptic future (as seen in this behind-the-scenes photo) contacting Logan.

Fans will recall at the end of X-Men 3, there’s an after-credits sequence featuring Professor X waking up in another body that he transferred his mind into – that of his braindead twin brother. This could explain Charles’ ability to again walk, should Bryan Singer choose to follow that route. The other obvious scenario is that the future depicted in film is an alternate one affected by time travel where characters thought dead can return, changed.

Bryan Singer directs X-Men: Days of Future Past with newcomers Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Boo Boo Stewart, Fan Bingbing and Adan Canto, along with returning stars Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore.

The Wolverine releases July 26, 2013, X-Men: Days of Future Past on July 18, 2014.

This movie already feels as if it's going to be confusing. Alternate universes meshing with time travel and alternative time lines. I hope it well thought out and cohesive.

No homo, I heard Jackman got super jacked up and shredded for the next series of Wolverines.
But I still thinks he needs to play Logan a little darker. The "go fuck yourself" line from X-Men 1st Class is the character mode he needs to stay in.
