Yazoo City, MS tornado - April 26, 2010, 05:41 PM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoRabHzYQsk&feature=fvsr

This is the mile wide monster that killed 12 across MS including a mother who threw a mattress on top of her 3 sons. They lived, she died holding the mattress down. Mute it if you don't want to hear that annoying dumbass from Discovery Channel's Stormchasers.

Captain Moustache, otherwise known as Bob Still (dad) missed this thing by about 300 yards. He was working on a transfer case at a customer's shop when he got a text from mom "BIG TORNADO ON GROUND." Sirens went off about a minute later, tornado came through about a minute after that. A drive that's normally 45 minutes took 3 1/2 hours. Between damage and stopping to help people he had a rather long drive home.

He says I wouldn't recognize Yazoo. The twister went right up the hill that takes you through downtown and flattened it all. It's a typical cotton town. If you've seen "A Time to Kill" which was filmed in Canton, then you've pretty much seen Yazoo.

Sucks. I always dug that town and the little diner we used to stop at on the way to a lake we used to fish in. It's apparently nothing more than a slab now.

Dude I saw some of the stats on it last night.

170mph winds
1 3/4 miles wide
Travel the entire width of the state, border to border. Some 205 miles on the ground.

Sad about the town. Good about your father being safe.

Glad your family is alright man. It's surprising--in a good way, that the thing went through the entire state and only 12 casualties.

Had it been further south, things would have been much different. The I-20 corridor is much more populated and would have carried it through the Jackson (capital) and Ross Barnett Reservoir areas.
