You thought Virginia had serious DUI laws? - September 16, 2008, 07:55 AM

When you Drive Drunk in

Australia
The names of the drivers
are sent to the local newspapers, and printed
under the heading " He's
Drunk and in Jail".

Malaysia
The driver is jailed and
if married, his wife is
jailed too.

Turkey
Drunk drivers are taken
20 miles outside of town
by police, and are forced
to walk back under escort.

Russia
License revoked for life.

S. Africa
A 10 year prison sentence
and $10,000 fine.

England
One year suspension and
a $250 fine and jail for
one year.

France
Three year loss of license,
one year in jail and a $1000
fine.

Bulgaria
Second conviction results
in execution.

America
seven day suspension and
6-8 hours jail.

I never understood why someone who gets charged with a reckless (speeding) has to pay bail to get out and someone with a DUI doesn't have to?

At first, I thought that also. Then I thought of all those people who lost loved ones to drunk drivers. I know if a drunk driver killed my family members, I'd equate the act with murder (or attempted murder), and we execute murderers... It's not that far out.

That completely depends on the circumstances and where.

The countries with the stricter penalties also have the "corruption" to easily get you out of them.

Mandatory sentencing guidelines set that, plus wanting to look tough on the drug problem.
