I have to agree that metaphorically it was a fantastic movie but its execution was flawed. I totally got everything that the guy mentioned about that movie. It was sealed when at the end Babydoll tells Sweetpea that it was never her story and ends up as the "angel" who took the fall to be able to liberate her. That totally explained the whole movie including the movie's title.

This movie reminded me of "The Fountain". Another movie with highly subliminal messages meant to express a very deep bond between the characters. Not easy to make sense out of it unless you treat every single scene in the movie as a metaphor for another scene and then try to link all the metaphors together to come to the film's true deep meaning. BTW, I think The Fountain was well executed but it's marketing approach totally killed any chance it had for mainstream success and instead casting it to a limited cult appreciation. Sucker Punch was similar in its marketing approach but at least it delivered some of the action they tried to sell. Doubt many people peered any deeper than that (hence the title).

Warning...it's an overly metaphorically complex melodrama. Do not watch it unless you are feeling all "new age-ish" or "emo". Basically, it has zero action.

BTW...another fantastic movie which I'm assuming you've seen, is Pan's Labyrinth. Another one is Brotherhood of the Wolves. Both are foreign films. Disclaimer: I'm not a raving fan of foreign or indie films. But you have to admit that some of them do a fantastic job of breaking the mold and bringing something new.
