Thumbs down Youtube left justification nerd rage (updated April 19th) - December 7, 2012, 07:04 PM

Nov 14,2013: Below this mark in first comment still works, however there is a Firefox comment at the bottom which should be viewed.

Current working youtube alignment fix as of Nov 14, 2013 is at the link below, i'm using it on Chrome.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...hpped?hl=en-US

the older stuff below is iffy since google keeps updating youtube, but the above link is working as of April 19th. I'll keep updating with working fixes as google fucks up youtube.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but a new update to youtube just came out. It "simplifies navigation" which is fine, youtube is always fine for navigation. But in all their infinite wisdom they changed everything to left justified. Now that doesn't matter for small screens but when nerds or people who like a large monitor at a higher resolution use it then it become a problem. I for example have a 24" monitor @1920x1080 and this results in over 5 inches of white space on the screen. This makes me want to piss in the mouth of youtube

here's a screen shot for example.

here's a fix I found for it temporarily, I hope they set the site back to center.

Enjoy watching that while your screen is left justified or full screen.

Update******

Apparently something has updated in youtube and the fix I listed above only half works. Now a second extension needs to be added in order for youtube to stay center justified. You can't just run one of the extensions, both need to be run at the same time. So you should also install this Youtube Center Aligned for Greasemonkey and you should have a wonderful center justified youtube

The white space is probably there for future tower advertising placement.

Fwiw: the three founders who sold YoutTube to Google awhile back for "only" a Billion undervalued themselves.

That property is easily worth 5-7x that much now and conceivably be 20x once the advertising and revenue sharing models are fully flushed out.

Thanks for the tip. I'm in the Nerd group. Just haven't put time into the work-around.

Now if only they'd improve buffering controls so I could reliably watch videos on an intermittent/slow connection.

The above information still works as listed. But i'm switching back to firefox as Google has announced that they will no longer be supporting extensions source (Google bans Windows Chrome extensions found outside the Chrome Web Store | PCWorld ) not listed in their play store.

So the following link is for Firefox, which has in recent time become much quicker and enjoyable.

YouTube Center for Greasemonkey That link will lead you to an extension called YouTube Center. The extension lets you download videos, center your videos, select default play style, change buffer and many more options.

It does work for Chrome but beware that chrome will not play nicely in the months to come.

firefox has an add on that lets you force buffering and other fantastic things.

Its called "magic actions for youtube"

My work throttles connection speed. This add on has changed how well youtube works.

lol my work has begun firing people who reach the top of the list of internet streamers. That seems to be very effective for reducing streaming. "Oh you are the #1 streamer...enjoy doing that from home 24/7."
