Battery shelf life - March 20, 2009, 09:56 AM

I think this only pertains to pre-charged (factory charged) batteries...but do they have a shelf life? I ask because I bought a factory charged battery and when I opened it and read the directions for charging specs - it said to check the "activate date" label on the side and take a voltmeter to the battery every 3 months and charge as necessary pertaining to the spec diagram...well the label said 9/2008....

The battery hasn't given me any problems....but I don't want to have to make another battery purchase in the next few months....

also..how often do any of you toss the battery on a trickle charger...even if just for a few hours? Just trying to get more opinions than what I already have.

I have yet to put a charger of any type on either of my bikes in the 1 and 2 years I've had them, original batteries.
