Brass fuel fitting install

Brass fuel fitting install - September 4, 2010, 02:43 PM

I got a 72 CB450 that I'm working on. I replaced all the fuel lines to discover that the petcock leaks. Not a big deal.

In the process of removing the new lines back off the petcock however, one of the brass fuel fittings pulled out of the valve, instead of the hose coming off the fitting. I didn't see that one coming.

It subsequently happened on a carburetor also. I'm inclined to just tap the thing back in but is there some sort of sealer or something I should use as well? Or they just a pressed fit?

Well so far just pushing the thing in seems to work. It's all just gravity feed so there isn't much pressure anyway.

Yep. You could sand and jpweld too. Better to cut off old hoses.

I'll try to snap some pics tomorrow. It's pretty sharp but very dirty.

It runs but it doesn't like to idle. When I can get her to fire up, depending on how things are twisted, she'll run at about 3000 rpms just fine. When I try to bring it down a bit it just dies.

I'm going to go through the carbs tomorrow and also try my hand at the points system (never messed with that before) and checking/setting the timing. It could def. use a set of plugs but I'll just keep de-fouling the ones I've got until I can get it closer to right.
