Chain Side Plate And Riveting Question - May 1, 2011, 03:41 PM

Hey folks take a look at this. I was using a Motion Pro Press and Riveting Chain Break Tool, and when I got to pressing the side plates and riveting I got the following results in the pics below. Question is do I have those pins coming oo far out and what should I do about the riveting? I've tried to rivet these a little more "wide" but getting no where. Thoughts?

Those aren't rivet links, they're clip links. Do you have another link set there? They are mashed a bit on there too, might want to ease up a bit.

See the clip slot for the master link.

yeah the package with the materlink had a clip in it as well, but I thought it was an either/or deal, so I didn't use the clip...so I should see another masterlink with different heads?

Yeah the mashed heads are from me trying to rivet it, but from what you guys are saying these aren't rivet-able links. Geez

There should be another piece that looks like this. Make syre you put it on with the opening facing the direction of rotation.

If that's the top side of your chain, you have the clip on backwards. The closed part goes towards the direction of the chain travel.

yeah I'm gonna send this joint back and get a different chain..apparently this one only comes with the clip and although I'm not a 100% sure, I'm assuming the rivet is going to hold better than a clip..especially with how torque-hungry my bike is..geezus.. I thought I was trippin... thanks folks...hopefuly I'll be able to get this summabich off

Why would you send the chain back? Just buy a rivet link.

Chain is the same. Your local shop probably has a rivet link in stock.
