Changing oil... What is this orange crusty stuff - August 3, 2012, 02:49 PM

Second oil change, 4k mile service, I see this stuff around the center threads where the filter goes

Thoughts?

Or would it have been deposited there from another place in the motor? Should I take it to the dealership?

There are companies that do oil analyzing if you are truly worried. Check your coolant. Also what type of filter did you take off?
