No longer a clutch issue, maybe a transmission issue. - May 15, 2009, 11:47 PM

so i redline 6th gear and start to ease up on the throttle (engine braking ((literally))) and my clutch won't engage the gears and acts as if it's in neutral. afterwards i'm able to shift freely in gears with out pulling in. anyway heres a pic, is this suppoe to move freely or be firm?

[EDIT]
This being the push rod, which i'm lead to believe it's suppose to move freely.

Also, while sitting on the side of the road, i noticed that when I would put it in gear the speedo would display a mph even though i wasn't going anywhere. So the transmission itself seems fine, it's just not transfering the power. Either way i'm going to have to take it out to replace the rod...if it is in fact the rod...o joy.
[/EDIT]
responses would be appreciated.

Well the clutch seems ok. I now think it's the transmission. maybe the transfer rod is busted. I'm kind of at a dead end at the moment since I can't get the transfer rod locknut off without a special tool. I'll get the part number tomorrow and post it up, see if any of yous has it.

So here's the issue. It seems to be a factory defect as well so hopefully i can get it fixed for freeze, assuming it's not a after market sprocket. With any luck, it didn't mess anything else up.

Enjoy.

I knew it had to be geared better then +2 in the rear when I asked u in the shout box last night... redlining 6th on an r6 stock gearing would take alot of room...

Yea, i figured he did something to the front if the back was done...it would be stupid not to. I just didn't know so i didn't want to act a fool.

Next time I get a bike used i'll be sure to check everything out.

just curious cuz u said "of course it's -1....hope you don't mess anything up.....looks like yyou have more work to do" But how does the sprocket size have anything to do with what is actually wrong? (defective nut and lock washer)

damn and that's sweet how u r supposed to identify that the change has been made to the bike...by making a "punch" at the end of the VIN.

the sprocket size determined whether or not its covered under the defect. Since it was messed with it's not. I looked at the nut, it doesn't seem a lock washer was installed. The threads didin't look/feel jacked up on the nut but i'm going to order a new set anyway. it's not much work but if the tranny is jacked from it then it will be.
