Ducati question about rings - August 26, 2008, 01:49 PM

How big of a job is it to replace a set of piston rings on a 1996 ducati 900ss. Cost wise ? Or even do it yourself how difficult would it be, ive changed plenty of rings and pistons in 2 strokes but a vtwin is a whole new story. Thanx Ryder.....

Call Donnie @ Duc Pond in Winchester.
He knows a few things about Ducati's.
The ring replacement is easy. It's the head removal/reinstall that is tricky.

I'd be more concerned about why the rings went bad. You usually only re-ring a two stroke. 4 strokes usually indicate neglect or abuse. I'd do a little poking around to see if there's a cause.

That sounds like a stuck carb float issue, not a piston ring issue.
Bad rings would make it smoke or have low compression.
Fuel in the oil is bad, too. Dilutes the oil and causes faster wear. Carb float sticking or worn is a much easier fix.

I'm having trouble getting Stillie to believe me.
Ben falls for it every time. Plus he pushes back.
I think that makes him ghey.
Your thoughts?
