Engine knocking - August 9, 2007, 09:25 AM

Wassup y'all? I have an 03 gixxer 1000 with almost 40,000 miles on it. I noticed recently that the engine is knocking and im not sure what it is. The last mechanic I took it gave me a BS answer and told me not to worry about it. I may not know a lot about engines but I do know they are not supposed to knock like that.

Anyone know of a good mechanic in the area, that is reasonably priced and/or willing to show me a few things??

Yea this would be something to worry about!!! Is the knocking up high in the head or down low near the oil pan? Pm me and I can help you out. BTW

Does it knock, or does it sound like a diesel engine? Look at your cam chain tensioner. Also check your oil level.

It sounds kind of like a diesel but not as loud. Oil is fine, I just changed that last weekend.

Does it only do it in the first 2 gears? Usually when you are accelerating from a stop?
