GPS - July 17, 2011, 10:03 AM

Anyone have a gps hooked up on their bike? just wondering i think i kind of need it seeing as i usually get lost drive around until i find 1 of the 95s and make my way back... That and i would like to start taking longer trips, just curious as to mounting points etc....

I was thinking of putting the suction upside down on the inside of the windscreen and drill 2 small holes and bolts to make sure it stays secure...

Garmin quest, much cheaper and they make a motorcycle mount for it. I have had a GPS on my bike since 2005 and I love my quest. It is smaller than the Zumo and it has a color screen. I can send you pics of the way I mounted it on my bike if you want.

OVER? did you say "Over"? Nothing is over until we decide its over, was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell No!!!

My GPS choice is my iPhone. My mounting is a RamMount. They have ram mounts for almost anything. The stem mount is another choice but too pricey for what it is in my opinion. FYI, Sportbikes only have space for one ram mount at a time.

Nuvi 750. Get one refurbed on ebay for about 100 bucks. Then bittorrent Mapsource software, guides will be in the torrent. This is the cheapest way to get a durable up to date GPS with custom routing capability. Then get a RAM mount specific to your bike and GPS.

The power cable to this model is actually a full 12v adapter, so just cut the wire at the cig plug and hardwire to a fused connection in your fuse box, or run a new fused line to it. It will not be pulling power when the GPS isn't connected, so don't worry about running the wire hot all the time. This is the set up I use on my ZZR600 and my KTM 690 SMC.

on my mainsstay (i dont have a right mirror) i was going to drill through the plastic to line the hole up on maintstay and use some bolts/nuts and locktite...

Ill check into the Rammounts though because once i finally get my stocker plastics id have to change up how i mount if i do it my way

that's the one thing I miss about my android devices. My iphone always seems to lose its gps capabilities right before i'm to make a turn or take an exit.

What kind of bike do you have? In a pinch, I just zip-tie my HTC Evo to my steering damper and it works like a charm. I'm trying to come up with a more permanent setup but that's worked extremely well so far.

I think even the Gen. 1 have the damper top-mounted. I've got a Gen. 3, and even though you cant hear anything, you can still see the screen. I'm more impressed than I thought I would be with the setup.
