hesitation - June 7, 2009, 12:01 AM

So I need an experts advise. I have an 04 R6 with about 15,000 miles on it. Never seen the track. Recently (within the last few weeks) I feel like the bike is down on power. It just doesn't seem to pull as hard as it used to. Its not that I'm getting tired of the 600cc. When the revs get to 12,000rpm and I'm accelerating the bike hesitates and stops pulling. I can even hear a change in the exhaust note. After a few seconds the bike picks back up. What can be causing this? I'm not getting any lights on the dash. I'm hope all the bike needs is a tune up and its something I can do myself. Any thoughts? Thanks.

have you changed the sparkplugs? 15k miles sounds like they are passed due for a change. what about your air filter? etc. tuneup sounds about right.

Could also be a bad tank of gas, but plugs do need a changin!

When ya start the bike up spray some WD-40 on each header pipe to see if your getting combustion on all cylinders. Might give you a jump start on where to start looking if one header tube doesn't burn off the WD-40 quickly. If you find one then check that coil/sparkplug first, then injector if needed.

plugs go for 20k easy.

simple stuff first.

How's the air filter look?
Does it improve or worsen with a full tank?
Does the rear wheel spin freely?
Start the bike when it's cold and let it run for about 10 seconds. Grab each header pipe and see if one is colder than the rest.
Does it get better if you put the bike on reserve? (provided you have a pet cock)

sounds like a problem I had on my outboard for my boat, it would idle fine and even operate smoothly up until about 3K RPM, then it would all of a sudden bog down and almost seem to want to stall, I changed and gaped (very important) some new spark plugs and she ran like new...GL
