Post how to replace the impeller shaft on a 92 ex 500? - October 7, 2010, 04:54 PM

I have to replace mine because the threaded bit is snapped off (my doing, because I'm a noob/a woman). I want to know how difficult/impossible it would be if I did it by going through the stater side of the engine, because I don't have the desire/tools to take the entire engine out and apart. I don't think the shaft can be taken out without messing with the whole damn water pump. If there's another way to take it out I wanna hear it!

Otherwise, I MAY attempt to get a threaded bolt tig welded to the shaft. drill out the impeller, and attempt to hold it in place with bolts that are sealed together so that they themselves don't move. This may not work, I haven't gone out to check if there'd even be enough space under the water pump cover. not to mention how easily this could fuck up my engine if anything goes wrong.

thanks guys
