LOST MY KEY - October 6, 2007, 05:01 PM

I lost the key to my 600rr. Dealerships say they wont make a new one. WHY, I honestly don't knonw.

My only option now is to find a locksmith that will make a mold to replicate the key.

I heard there was one down the street from Coleman's in Falls Church that was good with bike ignitions.

Can anyone reccommend a locksmith???

I have the registration, title, all that good stuff.

Go to a Honda Dealership and order it. Bring your ID and registration with you.

you need to have that little black plastic blank they give you when you buy it for the dealership to get the key for you.

Having a locksmith come and decode your lock will cost somewhere on the order of $250-$300. The alternative is to bring your registration and the 9-digit key code to a Honda dealership.

Dez - if you bought used from a dealer they might have only gotten one key when they took it as a trade in or whatever.

if you are down to one key for a bike...make a spare...hell, make 3 spares and put them in different places. I went through this a few weeks ago before a track day--thought I lost my last key...did some searching around and found not only a spare, but 3 spares...guess I went through this before

And have fun getting the old lock off the upper triple. Hope you have a big drill bit.

Just go to the dealership and order another. There is no reason why you couldn't if you have the key code.

hey thanks for your replies.

this has been a major pita.

i called a honda dealership and they told me i would have to get a locksmith to come make a key.

i think i will try asking the dealership again, it doesn't make sense that they wouldn't be able to make me a copy.

also, i don't know what the key code is. what is the easiest way to determine what mine is?

this is so frusterating. i don't have the dough or the know how to buy a new ignition and install it myself right now.
