Lowering a 1996 Suzuki Bandit - April 10, 2009, 01:22 PM

Friend of mine just purchased a 1996 Suzuki Bandit 600. It's a little bit tall for him so I'd like to lower it.

Raising the front forks is pretty straight forward, but I've never done any sort of lowering of the rear before.

Is anybody familiar with doing this and can you point me in the right direction for the process?

Thanks.

Dog bones for the rear

Better option is to try and shave the seat before severely altering the suspension.

holeshot dot com has lowering links for the rear. Bandits are not terribly tall bikes to begin with. What's the story here. Is your friend really short?

That's an idea. It all depends on what he's comfortable with though, it is his first bike.. he may not swallow the pill of cutting up a seat so easily at first.

I don't know yet what the preload on the rear spring is so FAIK that will solve it.

Where do these dogbones go? I'm sure I could figure it out if I had a bike right in front of me but I'm at work, thinking about things completely unrelated to work

I'd like to get this bike set up for him this weekend if at all possible so I'm trying to get as much of a preparedness head start as possible.

EDIT: of course if I need to order something it's just not gonna happen this weekend but I'd like to at least have a solid game plan.

That piece that looks like an actual dog bone.
Connects the shock to the swing arm.
Very easy to do.

It's a bit silly what dog bones sell for. They're just stamped strap metal with some holes drilled.

I can say the same for basically every aftermarket sportbike part.
