Mixing master links - September 24, 2010, 02:47 PM

Anyone know if it's okay to use master links from other brands? I Have an rk 520 XSO chain but no shop within 30 miles has An rk masterlink they all only carry d.I.d. So I guess my question along with "can I use a d.I.d mAstelink on my rk chain?" is, are all 520 chains the same?

I don't see a problem with it as long as they're o-ring chains and not X-ring. a link is a link and a chain is a chain, but a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.

Actually pin diameters between chain brands differ. Your best bet is to take the chain to the dealer with you and have them match up an appropriate link.

If the chain is already cut, just bring it over to MHK and talk to Jim or Darrin. You'll be in and out within a few minutes and you'll have piece of mind that it's right.
