New rear shock for FZ6 - May 31, 2015, 07:50 PM

With a couple track days under my belt and no dedicated track bike in sight, I figure I should upgrade the suspension on my FZ6 to eek out a little more from it. I have a set of R6 forks that I'll be retrofitting, but I'll need a rear shock to keep things balanced.

Some people on the FZ6 forum have swapped in a revalved 01-04 R1 shock, added a different preload adjuster, replaced a bushing, and made some non-visible mods to the plastic for adjustment. I'm guessing that'll set me back around $250 after all is said and done. It looks like entry level shocks from Penske and Ohlins run $600-$700. The used market is pretty much nonexistent, so they're easy to sell for $450 or so when I finally replace the Fizzer.

I don't think my riding is at the level where I would notice a double or triple adjustable shock, and I honestly probably wouldn't know what to adjust anyway. Any opinions on a decent brand? Penske? Ohlins? Other? Where to buy?
