Angry NEW sprocket question - November 7, 2007, 05:32 PM

okokok..... so i got the front sprocket off finally but, i went to put the new vortex one on and the lip on each side is a different width, i assumed that the writing on it would be facing outward. but if i have it facing inwards the spacing is the same as stock. should the teeth of the aftermarket sprocket be out farthur? im thinking put the writing inwards so the teeth are lined up w/ the rear sprocket, the other was the teeth are a full gear width inside. i want everything lined up right??? sorry im such a dumbass, thanks for the help in advance guys.

I am thinking that the writing should be facing out. I put the renthal on my R1 and 10 and it faced out. Call a shop if you are in doubt.

Can't choose between the R1 and the 10R so I am keeping both but settled with an 1198S when I came home

Keep it up!!!!!!!

Did you convert to 520 chain and sprockets from 525 or 530?

Writing facing out. Lock tight it in and if the sprocket you took off had a spacer/lock plate put it back on and make sure you bend the tabs in to lock it in place.

You're over thinking it dude. It's a quick swap.

Good luck.

If it has a lock tab washer I wouldn't use Loctite on it. It will be a real bitch to take off next time. Plus it is always rotating in the tighting way. Also after you put it on just look down the chain to see if it is striaght.

the guys at vortex said i should be able to read 'vortex' but that way makes the front look like its in too far, doesnt seem to line up w/ the rear. since its a 520 conversion is that what i want? the thicker side in ('vortex' in)is about the same as factory and putting it on that way looks like the sprockets line up...... the only thing that seems to justify putting the wording out would be the front needing to be closer to make up for the thinner chain..... sorry im such a dumbass lately guys
