r6 seat stuck - May 4, 2008, 03:33 PM

So the passenger seat on my 2000 r6 doesn't seem to want to open...the key turns and i hear a click (though something doesn't feel right about the lock) but the seat still feels like it's locked in. Any non destructive (no prybars or hammers etc) ways of getting in and finding out what's wrong?

Probably not helpful, but I've found that when the storage area is stuffed with too much stuff, you have to push down on the seat, turn the key, THEN lift up.

d'oh. Something in the mechanism probably broke then. The "overstuffed" thing was the only problem I ever had or heard about when I owned an 02 R6. Not sure what you can do... any chance there's some other way to get to the latch mechanism by removing plastics or something? Dunno.

If you're unsure how the mechanism works, get a maintenance manual for your model. If you can figure out what's going wrong, or whats holding it down, fidget with it till you can get it loose.

I'm guessing the latch just isn't moving all the way to release the seat. Maybe you can give it a nudge with that screwdriver.

This is why you must put a limit on the weight of your passenger.

I've used a flat head screw driver many times to unlock the rear seat.
