State inspection ???'s - April 4, 2010, 07:43 PM

Just shipped my ride out here to MD from CA and getting ready for the state inspection which ive never had to do before. Will i pass without the stock exhaust system? Is there a link to a list of things they check somewhere?

You'll be fine. Take it to Graeves Auto and Appliance in Olney or Potomac BP in Potomac. As long as your tires are good, brakes are fair, lights work, you'll be fine.

Thanks, I was thinking about taking it to your precious RAM cycles, If I messed something up I was hoping that they wouldnt catch it. lol Do i need to wire the rear brake light or will it pass with just the front?

^ As long as you can show them that the rear brake light comes on when the brakes are applied (even if it is only the front), I'm sure you'll be fine

You'll need a rear brake light switch. FYI, Ram takes their bikes to Potomac BP to get them inspected, they don't do them themselves.

if your talking bout Ram cycles, then i will have to disagree. they inspect
in house, they have there own inpector. but to answer the post, i know
they check for reflectors front and back, exhaust makes no difference.
inspection is really just for safety features i.e brake lights, instruments in
working order and so on. if your bike is stock with just a exhaust you will
be just fine.

powerd lights just for the inspection. took them off as soon as i passed

Then that's a new thing, they've been taking the bikes to BP for years for inspections.

What?!!!

You CANNOT be serious!!!

It's best to square your bike away as much as you can so that the inspector has an easy time passing your bike. I don't like to depend too much on leniency. A little, but not too much--don't abuse the system with straight pipes and no lights is my philosophy.

can I pass without mirrors or turn signals? I thought that as long as you use your arm to signal you dont need turn signals... but mirrors.... I'm not so sure....

You need at least one mirror...turn signals I thought you either had to have all of them working or none of them working and use hand signals...not positive though

im only talking from experience, i have had two bikes inspected by Ram in
the past two years and both were done at the shop in like 40 min. some
young guy does it. last time i had to wait until he got there in order to
get my bike done.

DPS in Gaithersburg is a good place for both motorcycle and car inspections. They have Saturday hours (by appointment only), which is helpful and the owner is a great guy. I've been dealing with him for a while now and he is a fellow rider, which is always nice.

Give 'em a call and see what they can do for you.

FYI,

RAM has a guy in house, took it over for a once over to see what i needed. The owner was able to come out and point out a few minor things that I needed to do other than new tires. Met almost the whole crew, seems like good guys. Got a track day schedule from them and wil be hitting up Summit next thursday with them. I can be a dick to sales reps so I don't know what they think about me, I know what I like and what works for me so I tend to tune out when I get a sales pitch. Sounds like they can get me everything I need, I just dont know about there prices?!?! I have so many hook ups back west its hard to pay regular prices.
