Superhawk electrical issue - November 27, 2014, 09:10 AM

So, I think I've diagnosed the issue, but I would like to confirm I have before ordering parts.

So I was traveling down the road, and all of the electronics died. No lights, no tach, nothing. The engine died as well, I was going fast enough to coast for a while and try to bump start. The engine would turn, but not fire.

I tested the battery and it reads 12.4 v. I found the main 30A fuse and it is clearly burnt out. I know these Hondas have regulator/rectifier problems, and I noticed a black fluid seeping out of mine.

My bike has already been modded with a R/R from a Yamaha R1, the OEM ones are crap. So I'm probably just going to order another one of those and replace the 30A fuse, but I just want to confirm that black fluid seeping out of the R/R is no bueno.

Pictures coming

Sounds right. Check the wiring harness also. When the R/R went out on my S'hawk some of the wiring burned up also.

Deal. I'm in the market for a track bike for next season. I absolutely love this thing to death, but having 3 bikes right now won't work.

$3,500 OBO

1998 Honda VTR1000F Superhawk.
17xxx miles, I think.

Modifications are as follows:
954rr calipers and braided Galfer lines (front)
Manual cam chain tensioners
R1 regulator/rectifier
Coerce rearsets
Michelin 2ct's with 80% tread
Yoshimura exhaust (shortened canisters by 4 inches)
Jetted (prior owner)
New DID 530 gold chain and steel sprockets down 1 up 2 (15/43)
Corbin seat with solo cowl
Fender eliminator
Cheesy flush mount signals up front (previous owner)
No mirrors
Frame sliders (not installed)

No rush to sell, I would love to keep it and continue to track my Hyper. The bike is incredibly clean and tastefully modded. Not crazy about trades, but if a nicely set-up track bike was offered I would definitely consider it.

I've got an R6 track bike I'll trade for it!

Also, I am the all-knowing Super Chicken guy here, so if you need any help, just let me know and I'll be happy to send some knowledge your way.
