Swapping out forks on an 07 650r - June 15, 2009, 12:04 PM

Hey guys, so after some forum searching I couldn't find any concrete answers so here is my question:

I am looking for a new set of forks for my 2007 650r, either OEM or aftermarket. The problem with OEM forks is there are very few available used. I would have to buy them brand new, which unfortunately costs a bit more then I am looking to spend... as does most OEM parts.

Would it be possible to swap the stock forks with a different model bike, like the ones from 636? Would I need to modify anything on my 650r in order to make the forks fit or is it basic plug and play type of a deal?
And if the forks from 636 would not fit, are there others that would?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

-Paul

problem you will run into is the diameter and legnth of the new forks vs. yours. you will prolly need brakes, wheel, axle basically the whole front end. not as easy as it sounds ... why not just get yours built?

MissS:no now!!!

Doing a little more research and it soudns like 636 forks from years 03 to 06 will fit the bike fine. I'd probably want to swap out an entire front assembly (forks, trees, brakes, handlebars, etc) since I am replacing the bent forks anyway OR I can just do the forks alone and keep the brakes, handle bars, etc as are.
Hopefully, I will be taking the bike apart sometime tonight or tomorrow to pinpoint the exact problem and then deciding if I want to just swap out an entire front end and make it better or just stick with just the 636 forks or maybe even OEM... which I know will cost me more than the 636 swap.

If anyone cares.. I will update this thread once I get deeper into the issue/fix
