Truck guru's - Is this a 5th wheel hitch mount in my truck bed? - January 9, 2012, 07:48 AM

This is a picture of the bed of my truck. The 2 outside pieces are square u-bolts that rest on the bed but can be lifted up about an inch or so. The circle is hollow and I can see thru it.

There is an electrical outlet in the bed area that I would assume is for a 5th wheel to plug into.

All signs point to this being a 5th wheel hitch mount, but can someone confirm?

It is a Goose neck set up. There should be a release that will allow you to pull up the square in the center and turn it over. The ball should be on the other end of that square.

ahh same as those big ass hitches you see in trucks when they are towing heavy ass RVs huh. So the mount point is over the rear axle?

Gooseneck and fifth wheel very much different. Same approach, getting the tongue weight over the rear axle, but the goose neck doesn't have the weight capacity of a fifth wheel, just is much more convenient since a simple ball doesn't take up the whole bed like a fifth wheel hitch.

Well i'll be damned. I thought it was the same. Maybe people i talk to just don't know their terminology.
