Tt-r 125 startinf issues questions.... - June 18, 2011, 07:36 PM

So I picked up the ttr 125 this past week! I lve taken off the carb (filthy) cleaned it as best a I could put it all back together. Hanged the oil, put fresh gas into the tank, put everything bak together and attempted to start her up....

This is where the problem(s) arise:

I have compression, piston cycles with kick starter and electric starter.

I have fuel that spills outta the carb overflow tube (carb float chamber) everytime I turn the gas line on.

The spark plug sparks when pulled out and grounded while kickstarting and electric starting.

Engine does not seem to fire at all though.

Any input at all?
PLEASE!!!

7I know what your problem is. Get that thing to my house so we can get it running.

OVER? did you say "Over"? Nothing is over until we decide its over, was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell No!!!

I'd bet you didn't clean the carb correctly...

Yeh carb was FILTHY. jets were "gunkifued" pretty bad, and float wasn't consistently activating the "pointy rod"....

I tried taking it all out to clean thoroughly but there was so much gunk on the interior parts that it made cleaning a BITCH.

My question is, would the described carb issues prevent the engine from firing up at all?

Absolutely. I'm in Rockville, bring it to me and I'll clean it while you wait.

Gotcha.... I'm keeping bike at gf's parents house on Kent Island so I'll take the carb off rather than bringing the whole bike back home.

I'll prolly order a carb kit as well for like $30 off eBay to replace some of the parts, that may help too. I didn't have any kind of wire brush or anything other than carb-cleaner and a t-shirt and screwdriver to pick and wipe the carb clean.

First time I ever opened one of those apart, def not as intimidating as first presumed! Haha
