What chain wax/cleaner do you use? - June 23, 2009, 04:21 PM

I need to go out and get some more Chain wax for my motorcycles and was just curious on what everyone else use's.

I mainly use WD-40 to clean the chain and then use Motul chain wax

Never said my memory was that great.

I've been pretty impressed with the Motul wax but it's hard to find and not that cheap.

I was thinking about going back to Maxima or giving PJ another try.

Honda has a good spray lubricant. I gave mine to OSD now that I've got a shaft drive.

This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. Spray it on,I doubt you'll be looking for a cleaner. My chain could be black and within a second of spraying that stuff on,the chain looks brand new again.

You can't get the Honda HP chain lube anymore because apparently it contained a hazardous substance. That can of lube served me well and is long since gone.

I'm a bit old school, but I stand by a little bit of kerosene on an old sock to clean the chain surfaces. There is absolutely no reason to clean the chain's internals with a penetrating spray such as WD-40. I do a quick wipe-down with a dry rag and then hit it with Bel-Ray chain lube. Bel-Ray is the best replacement for Honda HP. It sticks like crazy and simply does not fly off like the competition.

I am well aware of the WD-40 controversy and do not want to engage in that. If you want to spray WD-40 on the chain, go for it. I don't, and my chain and sprockets tend to last a good long time.
