First question to ask is what do you want out of the bike? Better handling? More power? low end? mid-range? top end?

Handling could be as simple as having your suspension properly set...power, well...that plays into your experience, skill...etc...type of riding...blah blah...

You have a huge amount of options so the question becomes..what do you want out of your bike and your riding?

Remember...the rider is ALWAYS the difference

Step 1: remove key from R6. Step 2: remove R6 key from keychain. Step 3: afix keychain to the key for this.

Seriously though, spend your money on stuff that counts. Don't waste it on cosmetics.

you want to drag knee? why not go with the suggestion of getting your suspension set-up and then invest in a race school.

Ok, handling have your suspension properly set up...have the sag set and you may want to have your fork oil changed if you haven't done so. I have an 04 R6 (identical to your 03 pretty much) and the suspension off the show room floor is good enough that unless your weight is well below 150lbs should be fine for you. (having the bike set will allow you to know whether you need to have your suspension changed for your weight)

As far as power, you could get a 520 kit and avoid having to deal with a power commander or all the BS of tuning it (basically, as the temp/humidity changes...you need to change the PC program) One reason why I only run a slip-on on both race bikes...and honestly aside from a few 600's I have no problems keeping up with anyone on my 05 R6.
Gearing is cheap and makes a HUGE difference.

As far as dragging knee...you can learn to do that in a parking lot...you don't need "race" tires or even trackday tires...street tires will do just fine. It's actually very easy to do, you need to be smooth and put faith in your tires/bike. Learning to drag knee...key in on the word "learning" is in my opinion pretty @#$%ing stupid and could land you in the hospital or worse so my suggestion is go to a parking lot or trackday.

Now, if you want to ride dragging knee...everyone here knows what I'm going to say...do that at the track...doing that on the street can be done safely on some roads but the safest/smartest place is the track.
