Where to go to get Spare Key Cut? - November 16, 2017, 08:44 PM

So, I have a blank key and an original key for my motorcycle. It's not a chip based, good ole metal key.

Want to get it cut, so that I can have a spare too.

Checked Lowe's, HD and Pep Boy's, was told they don't cut it. Any other thoughts, Walmart or anything else? Checked Ace too, 2 of them can't do it because of liability.

Any suggestions for a local place Provided I take my own blank key with me and they cut it based on original key.

Thanks for the help and advice.

A regular locksmith would certainly be able to do it.

Ace Hardware but sometimes they won't if it's not a blank they can replace. Other times they'll do it and tell you they're not responsible if it doesn't work.

Baldino's cut my spare keys. They're a DMV locksmith chain.

I get spares cut any time I buy a vehicle, 2 wheels or 4, and just got truck keys cut last summer. I go to Home Depot and I've never been told no. Did they give you a reason?

Used to cut keys, each key blank fits into a certain cartridge for the key to be cut correctly. Wherever you go you will need a shop that has the blank cartridges for a motorcycle key.

HD did not have any it seemed for the blanks that my yamaha is based off of.

Most motorcycle dealerships should have these blanks in their shop dept.

Yeah, HD said they don't have the key in system when they tried to copy. Tried a different machine and it didn't have by 'Yamaha' as manufacturer either.

It's been awhile, I guess they changed what they carry. Thanks, good to know.

I get my VW keys cut by them, they even carry blanks for them and others too. F paying the dealer $200 for the key and another $100 to code it. Get one off the introwebs for under $40 with a blank key, rfid chip, and fob. They will lazier cut it to the original for under $20, but still got to go to dealer to have ecu programed. Still $160 is much better then $300+
