AGV Sport SP6 Suit - Any Good? - November 26, 2009, 09:53 PM

Ok, so bikebandit has the agv sport sp6 one piece leather suit for $286. Is this too good to be true? I've read good reviews on kneedraggers, but was hoping for someone who may have personal input on them. I'd love to pick up this suit, but don't want it to be a POS. Any input would be great.

Thanks.

IMO, they are a good buy. I have one, and it now has about 4k miles on it with no stitches coming out. My only gripe is there is not one pocket on the thing, so for the street your DL and cash will have to go somewhere else.
That said, if you do ride mostly street this will be fine for you. You are more likely to have a low speed fall on the street. If you are carrying much speed you are probably going to hit a car or a tree or a guardrail before the suit gives out.
For the track, initially, you should be fine. Again, speeds are relatively low at first. I wouldn't want to take a 100 mph slide in it, but it's built well enough to handle what you will likely encounter.
Be aware that there are some textile panels in it: crotch, under arms. Not in areas you will hit, though.

Reviews via kneedragger:

By DAN from Benson, NC on 11/06/2009

Pros:
Exceptional attention to detail and high quality for a race suit at this price.

Cons:
Velcro in the arm zipper area is a bit anoying but not bad.

Sizing Info:
Fits true to size

Additional Sizing Notes:
I would recommend following the sizing chart pretty close!!

Comments: I've used both JR & Teknic leathers for on track action and the AGV is by far a better suit with more protection built in. Extra padding where it's needed makes a difference when things go wrong for you.

SP6 suit is a great value.By Jeff from Carney\'s point, NJ on 10/26/2009

Pros:
A outstanding value at only $309! The suit fits me really well for an off the rack size. Good quality construction with nice leather, sturdy seam construction, good stretch material and YKK zippers.

Cons:
Only minor nitpicks on this one for me. The silver on the knee's is a little more BLING than I would normally go for. The forearms are cut a bigger than most other suits. These were easily overlooked when considering the quality vs price of this suit.

Sizing Info:
Fits true to size

Additional Sizing Notes:
Size 48 fits well on me. I am 6'-1.5" @ 210#. I wouldn't recommend being any taller than this. The suit does have long legs and sleeves but this works to my advantage. Nothing crazy just a tad longer than others.

Comments: The crew at kneedraggers took great care of me and my order. That's what I continue to give them my business.

By Monte from Georgetown, SC on 10/15/2009

Pros:
suit seems to be very well made

Cons:
none so far

Sizing Info:
Fits 2 sizes larger

Additional Sizing Notes:
suit was too large, had to reorder size 40, size 40 fit very well

Comments: customer service was very good. no problems returning suit to get smaller size

Great bang for your buck....By Ron from Oceanside, CA on 10/03/2009

Pros:
Great protection at an affordable price. Easy break-in. Breathable.

Cons:
My only complaint is that the suit is a little irritating right around the wrists. It's where the velcro holds the liner in the suit. I could live without the shiny material on the knees.

Sizing Info:
Fits true to size

Comments: Taken the suit on 2 street rides and 1 track day. So far so good.

Pros:

Cons:

Sizing Info:
Fits true to size

Additional Sizing Notes:
True to size, but would order close to the upper bound of the size range.

Comments:

Hope you've got forearms like Pop-EyeBy ShadesOfGray from Funcoland on 09/22/2009

Pros:
Fits well over most of my body. Very comfortable, very well ventilated. Looks pretty decent too. Great price. All around, a pretty solid deal.

Cons:
Fits REALLY poorly in the forearms. I'm a XXL I think, and it's like, I mean, you've gotta have Pop-Eye forearms for this thing to work. The kicker is, it fits me great everywhere else. But in the forearms, it's HUGE. That's a concern. Other than that the suit is golden. I'm gonna get it adjusted if I can. Even despite this issue it's a steal.

Sizing Info:
Other

Additional Sizing Notes:
This is a very high quality suit. Very well made, and I have no doubt it will protect me.

Comments: BLEGH!

Nice suit!By Quan from Cypress, TX USA on 09/02/2009

Pros:
Very nice suit for the price! I'm amazed how much nicer it fits than my other suits!

Cons:
None currently. Hopefully won't have to review how it holds up in a crash. Well also I wish I would gotten it sooner for my trackday. The order processing time used up almost 3 biz days!

Sizing Info:
Fits true to size

Pros:
very good quality of leather for the price. im happy with it

Cons:
none

Sizing Info:

Additional Sizing Notes:
the problem i have with the suit is the sleeves and around the anke is about an 1' to an 1' 1/2 too long. it must be me cause i'm 5'9' ,220lbs and size 50. i had to get it alter. other than that it fits perfect

I have used an AGV SP-4, which is very similar just a year earlier model. It crashed pretty well for me in a nice speed highside in turn 11 at VIR. I had a few ripped stitches repaired by Barnacle Bill and still wear it as a street suit today. I don't think you can go wrong for that price. Nothing in that price range will touch it as far as quality and design, AGV has been making suits for a long time.

Cool thanks for the responses. When I saw the reviews on kd, figured I was ok but wanted other input( never know if they are lies haha).

Since I will be a starter on the track (taking Rick's beginners course hopefully this year) and mostly ride street, and would like a little extra protection.

ok, so they don't have the color I want for the SP6. And they lowered the price to $250. But i'm trying to figure out if I should go with the Forza instead? Anyone know about the AGV Sport Forza leather 1 piece?

The only real differences are graphic design and the SP6 has a hump.

I have a custom Phantom suit that are far as I can tell is the same thing as the SP6. I'm not a fan of how all AGV suits are black+another color these days which I've gotten custom suits with white as the primary color. Another thing I don't like is the complete lack of padding on the hips, so some armor pants like Bohn makes would be a good idea. That's what I plan to do if I ever get around to having my suit modified to fit at all.

I also have SP4 and Rage suits.

For this price I'm going to get one myself.

Ok, so how much help is the hump? I know, stupid question, but this is my first suit.

I really want a blue accent on the sp6, but they don't have but a size 40 at bike bandit, which is why i'm considering the forza. Forza is pricier, and doesn't have the hump. sp6 is cheaper (only due to closeout price) but i would have to get red or yellow, and I have a blue bike and helmet (and blue is my color).

so you are picking up a sp6 also? I can't believe the price, its 60% off.

The hump really doesn't do anything.

ok, so you think that either one would be pretty much the same other than look? It sounds like the SP6 also has other padding, but not sure. Just trying to figure out why its typically $200 more than the forza for standard price?

If there truly is no difference, then I would probably on on Ironpony and get the forza, so that I can get the color I want.

AGV Sport SP6 Suit Any Good - December 12, 2009, 02:53 PM

Nope. I wish I could but my money is going into roll cage fabricationa and a built motor for my solo/roadracing toy. I have a 2 piece set up that I am happy with for now. When I get to the point where I need a suit I will def check them out again but for now I only have money for one project.
