Anyone using a a knockoff mirror visor for the arai helmets? - June 13, 2011, 12:41 PM

Kind of hard dishing out almost $100 for a arai mirror visor. Anyone have any opinions on the knock off ones?

Honestly the mirror visors are pimp but whether you buy the real deal or the knock off, they get scratched very very easily and become useless. The minor scratches on the outside look even worse from the inside of the visor. Just my 2c though.

I don't have experience myself--I'd be concerned about potential to shatter/splinter in a crash. Helmets have to meet standards, but I don't know whether there is regulation on the shields. You can be sure that Arai shields won't blow your face up in a crash.

And yes, I'm very disappointed with how easily they pit and scratch. I don't understand why they can't clear coat the surface to protect it better.

it sucks, but spending that much on a quality helmet to save a few bucks on a shield is a tough call to make man. What kind of Arai lid do you have?

roll with tear offs, they're easy to install and they don't cost too much. Especially with all the 'tarded rides you guys do.

Bit the bullet and ordered a iridium visor off eBay for my Russell corsair v. Overall the visor looks nice. Looking through the visor, everything looks clear. No wavy or distorted images. At $30 shipped, I didn't think it was bad for the price. I'll let you guys know after a few rides how the finish of the visor holds up.

Just got it on the helmet. Fit is not as smooth as stock installing and taking off the visor.
