Thumbs up Barnacle Bills Leathers - July 30, 2009, 10:42 AM

I wanted to give a review of the great experience I had using Barnacle Bill's.

My one piece needed major alterations. I wanted to have it done locally because I thought it would be faster and better for someone to see it in person on me. I took it to Bedos after seeing some stuff posted about it. Great guys but they said it would be weeks and they wanted to charge me approx. $450. No thanks.

I sent it to Bill after getting a rough quote of $200-$250 and only a week and a half time turn around time. He actually advised that I sell the suit after seeing it but I told him I wouldn't have enough money to buy a new one. The guy was phenomenal. My suit was altered from the waist down and fits like second skin now. It was far more work than what he originally thought and he only charged me $150!! Less than what I was quoted!

Needless to say, his customer service is by far the best I've seen and I can't believe what he was able to do with the suit. Bill is a seriously great guy with a great company. Just wanted to pass that along.

Bill is good people.
If he said to replace your suit I'd do it.
It's the only thing saving your skin. I learned my lesson with cheap leathers.

I don't know about crazy but he sure is fun to bs with.

Ben- I have some pics on my work computer that I'll upload tomorrow. The torso was way too long which meant that aside from looking stupid, I couldn't move my leg off the bike at all or get close to the tank. It's hard to explain but the pics will help. A too long torso meant that the thighs were way too short (and too loose). It was just a mess. He raised the crotch three full inches and took it upon himself to raise the knees and take in the waist and rear. I never even mentioned the waist to him but when he started looking at it he called me and said he wanted to fix it. He really hooked me up.

tfinch- The $150 included the return shipping to me and I only paid $11 to ship it out. I used an oversized box so it would probably have been cheaper if I had a smaller one handy.

Steve- I think he said it because, in his words 'this thing don't fit you no where does it?'. I'm definitely getting my next one from him but I'm stuck for now. I know you're right.

Sara- Thanks, and Spartan. Check yo pm's.

So the QA on spartan suits isn't too hot, eh?

I'd heard a lot of good things about them. Did you buy an off-the-rack, or one of the custom ones? In half pics I've seen of you you seem to be pretty average build; are you all legs or was it suit construction?

Will a spartan suit protect me while I'm kicking someone into a pit?

I heard good things too, I don't know what happened. It was custom but it came with a medium size tag in it. And they are made in another country and shipped over here. Spartan is like a middle man but not responsible for anything, it's weird. I don't want to bash anyone though. After seeing what it should fit like I'm just not real thrilled. The pics aren't great but here's the before:

But it's skin tight now thanks to Bill, well the lower part at least. The top is still a little baggy but I'll probably have him fix that up for me this winter.

Leave it a little baggy for now. You might need that additional space for a back protector and and stuff.

We need more pics of the lower half of the suit. The skin tight fit is not completely evident.
