I have to say the photo-chromatic shield Akuma helmets had was a lot better than the one Star has. I have both and the one on the Star does not get dark enough especially if it's bright sunlight outside. The Akuma version (made by the same company) turns much darker.

It wouldn't happen to be the same fit would it?

I have the same complaint, but it isn't bad enough for me to want to switch helmets. I wish it were a touch darker on really bright days, but I can deal.

I know for spectacles one can specially order transitions on them, which is that clear coating which darkens to block out the UVs. Gets really dark on them sunny days here in DC.

Not sure, but perhaps if you send them the shield or buy a clear one and send it to them they might add a coat for you, but for a fee.
Unless transitions coats shields for consumer purchasing? I might've seen them on revzilla or something...

As far as the fit goes the Bell helmets don't fit me as well as Arai, Akuma round/oval. But, I'm not sure if the photo chromatic shield is being offered for Akuma anymore. They stopped making them a few years back It only comes with one if you can find the Akuma Phantom CF helmet that comes with it which is a hard find these days...

Bell makes Akuma? Or is it the same contract manufacturer factory they're being pumped out of?

Sorry I didn't clarify. Bell and Akuma are different companies. What I meant was SolFX makes the transition lenses for both but the Bell version gets less dark...
