ChatterBox XBi2 - Anyone using one? - August 24, 2009, 11:42 AM

http://www.chatterboxusa.com/cbxbi2fkit.html

Sara and I are looking at communication options for when we ride together. The GMRS X1 unit looks nice and has some great features, but everytime I look at it with the antanna, it just looks bulky to me and I don't really like the idea of having that big honkin' box clipped to the side of my helmet. I do know they have an extension cord so the box could go in the tank bag/pocket/handlebars....but meh.

The new XBi2 unit is sleek, compact, bluetooth ready...but the range isn't as good. On that note, I don't think Sara and I would ever really get that far apart. The range on the XBi2 is 1,640 feet/546 yeards/.31 miles. It's got 6-8 hours of "true talk time" with 48 hours of standby. That seems decent.

Anyone have any experience with these yet?

The XBi2? My impression is this unit is very new to the market and hasn't been out too long.

How come you only used it a couple times? Lack of other riders with one? Didn't like the quality? Not good noise reduction?

probably not that one then if its that new...i bought the top of the line model years ago and i think only a handful of my friends had them...but nobody every coordinated enough to bring them to rides. So...yea, they didn't get much use...

Chris, if you do pick this up would you do some sort of informal review? Been looking at these for next season!

Sure.

I made a bonehead move and put in a bid on 2 of the X1's on ebay.....I am hoping and praying I get outbid. Once I'm off the hook for those, I'll be making an offer to someone for 2 of the XBi2's. Whether they accept my offer or not, we'll be picking up a pair.

The only thing that really concerns me is the distance. The X1's have a great distance, but they're bulky. I don't want those big boxes on my helmet and I don't want to spend the extra $$$ on 2 extension cords to put them in the tank bags. The XBi2's are nice and small and look to have great battery life.

Wanna do a fake me out ebay account and outbid me???

Also, I'll talk to a guy at a local shop and see how much he'd be willing to work the price. I'll post up what I find.. going by there today.

Thanks for the post!

How is the noise cancelling at highway speeds?

How's battery life been for you?

Do you use the voice activation or push-to-talk?

So the noise is cool. I have a stealth custom exhaust on my bike and still hear it fine. I was rolling at like 80mph and my girlfriend thought I was on the couch at the house(FREGGIN AWESOME)....battery life is cool. I wore it when I rode home 400 miles and it lasted most of the trip. I think its suppose to be 5hrs. I then switched to the mp3 player. And I dont ever really talk that much unless my girl calls. I listen to all my music through my phone then when someone calls, its switches to the call then back to the music after the call so....long story short. I like mine. Also.....the dude at chatterbox customer service dont even ask questions. My battery came loose inside and I am not under warranty....they just shipped me a new one and I sent mine back.

So the comms units that were at this motorcycle shop weren't chatterbox.. they were the other brand but can't remember what they're called now!

You going for it or what Chris?
