Custom Race Leathers for $375 - April 21, 2008, 01:16 PM

I'm looking to buy leathers (XS) for a good price (cheap! -lol). I came across this forum that advertises custom race leathers for $375. Anyone heard of this? or know if this is a good deal and good quality (safe)? Any thoughts?

wow seam like a great deal but remember you get what you paid for. Leather is not cheap neither is the labor to put a custom suit together. Most custom suit's cost 1 grand and more. Might be a great suit for mini moto and low speed racing though. Get one and let us know about it.

24 pages in the BARF and nobody has crashed one yet? I'd wait to see how they hold up after reviews start getting posted.

Never heard of them before though, so I can't comment on how they hold up. But they seem to be getting some decent reviews. I would say go ahead and try it out.

Check out the return policy (if they have one). Doubtful but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Make sure when you take your measurements, you take them wearing what you are going to wear under the suit. And get perforated. Also for street riding, I'd stick with a 2 piece. IMO, they are much more comfortable and you can still wear them to the track when you're ready to go.

Thanks Viki - I just "might" order a two piece.

I found this post on that thread.....

Here's my review from a small women's perspective:

When I first pulled the suit out of the box the first thing I noticed was the weight. Like my husbands spidi suit it had a good weight to it. There is a TON of armor everywhere! We compared the stitching on the seams and the amount of seams to his Spidi suit and they were very comparable. They looked virtually the same, double stitching in all of the right places.

The quality of the leather is comparable as well to his Spidi suit. It seems decently thick, but still flexible enough leather. The colors also on my suit are awesome and the name on the back turned out great.

The fit on the lower body was pretty good and it fits perfectly with my back protector. I am happy that I can fit my suit in my boots without having to fold over any extra leather like my old suit. There is a ton of protection in the knees, shins, hips, shoulders, elbows, and arms. The knee protection definitely will not move for anything which is great in a crash! I swear, I had a hard time just getting it on and off which for me is a great plus!

Now, for being such a small woman I should have requested more of a kids size. I do fit in boys size 14 so the armor in the regular suit is a bit too big on the top for me. I look a bit like a football player in the shoulders. I am small.... 5' tall and about 100 lbs with a very small frame. This also made the arms a bit big below the elbow instead of being as snug as they should be. So if you are a woman who is small or petite like me, ask Daniel about the kids sizing at least for the armor so you don't end up with armor that is more of a mans size.

All in all the quality of the suit way surpassed my expectations. It has the weight and seam quality of my husbands Spidi suit which says a lot about the craftmanship of the suit. All of the men out there, this will fit you wonderfully! All of the women who are small like me, talk with Daniel about the kids sized armor and you will be set!

Again, Daniel has been more than responsive and keeping us up-to-date on everything that has happened with our suit. He has provided the best customer service that I have received in a long time.

(I'll be posting pics later tonight! Sorry about that.)

Hey Miami-

I have an alpinestars suit I'm looking to get rid of. It's a two piece that zips together black/white. Size 8 - may be a bit big but you're welcome to try them. I've worn them like once. Let me see if I can find the old post w/a pic.

Found it... Alpinestars Racing Leathers, Female, sz. 8

If you're interested and they fit, I'd let them go for $300 for you.

Yes. Apparently, when you measure yourself, you need to go a little smaller than what you measure.

I'm so massively tempted to burn $400 by this thread. Damn.
