Ever REALLY Used Your Helmet?? - March 5, 2007, 03:23 PM

I was just reading the helmet safety thread ( Helmet Safety Information ) and I was wondering how many of us have actually had a helmet on when it counts.

It was 1998 when a car hit me and sent me tumbling into a tree, face first. My white Bell helmet kept my face in one piece. The front of the helmet wasn't dented or cracked, but had a big green stripe from the tree!

What helmet were you wearing and what happened to it (and your head)?

in 03... I crashed big time - I totalled my 98 vtr superhawk... As luck would have it.. I was wearing a new helmet - it's first ride.... The helmet was rashed over 3/4 of the whole thing... I have some pics around here somewhere..... I am very glad I was wearing a good helmet.... It was an Arai Astral (the Arai for shoei shaped heads).. I went right back and bought the exact same helmet... I still wear it today....

HJC AC-10, fell in November 2002, approx. 45mph smacked my head on the pavement and then slid across gravel off the road, helmet was ruined, I was dizzy for a few minutes but was fine after a couple minutes

OGK FF4- July 2006, went down at VIR after running off track, left 1/4 of my face/head hit the dirt pretty hard, rung my bell a little, but other than a headache on the ride home, I felt fine

-Craig

Confusing the issue, since before you were ugly.

Made good use of mine 1/6/07, only part of me to hit the pavement, and it hit hard. Memory loss for a short period of time ~30 min or so, but other than that I'm as fine as I was before the crash.

Quoted from AIM. A conversation with Dwight about him and Ben.
"cpsdwight: i couldnt believe that i was keeping him up"

Harvey - "I can't date fat chicks man, there's just too much material there. Someone's gotta be thin in the relationship and it's obviously not me."

Craig: "man that Husky that stopped to check on you was fucking bad ass!"

Matt: "huh? what stopped"

Craig: "you know, the guy that stopped and talked to you was on a nice ass husky dirtbike"

Matt: "no one stopped and talked to me"

a head injury shouldn't be that funny

Turn 9 - Roeblign Roads raceway - 110mph lowside. Gentle until I started to tumble in the field. Scratch 1 helmet.

Turn 9 Roebling Roads raceway redux - 130mph runoff. Put bike down rather than hit fence. 90mph 'highside' in field. Had bruises on my forehead from the styrofoam crush liner....concussed for about 6 weeks with headaches. Scratch helmet 2.

Turn 10 Summit point. 110mph catapult from my SV. Landed probably 70+ feet away off the track after using some unnamed guy for a speedbump. Destroyed an OGK. Other than whiplash I had zero head injuries. (Confirmed from a ton of etsts at the ER room that evening.)

Helmets...yup..I'll always wear them!!!

Those are the more prominent ones.

I want my baby back, baby back, baby back....Chileeeeee's bay back...

In 04 I had a head on introduction to a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Broke my nose, broke my eye socket, lacerated between my eye and my nose. Concussion. Couldn't focus on anything for two weeks after the accident. Was wearing an HJC CS-12.

In 06 I highsided going into Oak Tree turn at VIR. Did a faceplant at 60mph+ and my head was fine through multiple impacts as I was rolling towards the tire wall. If I had a headache, it was nothing compared to the rest of the pain I was feeling. Was wearing a Shoei RF-1000.

I won 5st Place

After the turn 6 and somewhere at Summit Pt on 10/02 and the major wreck going to Rockville in '02. The Arai was the first to go and it was nice. The KBC served it's purpose. Shoei is still around and I have a Scorpion now.

30 mph highside going to work. Landed on head and then slid about 50 feet on head. Zero problems but had to goto Colemans and get a new helmet. Was a Shoei rf1000.

He is, I was there to witness it, he ran over Blackcat and went flying. Only time I've ever seen a control rider run over another rider
