As far as pants go for men does anyone have any knowledge about either of these types?

The AlpineStars Air Flo pants or the ST5 Drystar pants?
Both are on this link below:

We're just trying to see if anyone has tried these before, and what people have to say. He wants something pretty lightweight but durable that offer some protection.

wtf mate?

I have the Air Flo and like them. Definately pretty light and seems like it would offer decent protection, being thicker in certain spots, although I'm sure there are a lot of better choices in this regard. Certainly lets in a ton of air, which is quite nice for hot weather, although your legs will freeze off quickly when it's cold. Also very easy to get on and off, and fits comfortably over all kinds of pants I've tried. More towards spring/summer I will probably look for 1/2 piece leathers for more 'serious' riding detail and leave these for errands or short rides, which the AirFlo's seem better suited for.

Just so you know I've never used any other gear, so I don't have much to compare to.
