gear review: AGV Sports Mirage 2-piece, Tornado gloves, Bates ultra-lite boots - May 30, 2007, 03:26 AM

i was looking around for a decent/cheap 2-piece a while ago, and couldn't really find too many reviews online (even on MGR), so i thought i'd post about mine. i didn't want to shell out too much (<$500), wanted something with a street-wearable jacket, and ended up taking a gamble on the sizing without having tried it on first (since most dealers/shops around me seemed to have limited supplies of suits/brands on hand). so, i eventually settled on a mirage, and am pretty happy with it overall. i'm about 5'10/5'11 and 165lbs, and i got the smallest size (40) available.

pros:
-both the jacket and pants fit perfect for my size, even zipped, and feel pretty comfortable.
-leather and stitching feels really high quality for the price, and i saw some generally positive reviews about AGV's suits in this regard.
-jacket gets tons of compliments from riders and non-riders alike, and the whole suit is generally pretty sweet looking.

cons:
-the jacket is a little short in back, but most 2-piece uppers seem that way.
-only one pocket on the inner-left lapel, but again, most uppers probably have one (at most).
-biggest downside is the ventilation: parts of it have perforated-nylon fabric to let in a little bit of air, but ultimately it's just not enough for the street when temps go above 75, so nowadays i'm using a mesh jacket.
-the included foam backpad totally blows, about 1cm thick and perfectly flat. i immediately swapped it out with a spare fieldsheer melicomb-style backpad (bout twice as thick) and it fit perfectly.

also, on a side note, the website says it has an aero hump in the back, but it's a [pretty big] typo.

as for a mini-review on the gloves, the stitching doesn't seem up to the same standards as the suit or my a* street gloves. the threads seem like they're discoloring a little as well, but aside from all that, they do their job pretty well and feel quite comfortable.

and of course, major props to sree once again for getting me a great deal on all of it. i'd highly recommend him and AGV suits in general, would be a great choice for anyone who wants something high quality for the track, but without having to spend ~$800-1000. hope this helps someone out.

lastly, i also picked up a pair of Bates ultra-lite 5" tactical sport boots, and love those too. http://www.copquest.com/47-1010.jpg. covers the ankle, sizing fits like a regular shoe and is very comfortable. extremely durable and, though i have yet to make use of this feature, it won't set off a metal detector best part is that i got them new for $55 on ebay, but they're all over the place for under $70.
