Question Getting good gear locally (MD) - June 13, 2010, 09:11 AM

So even though there's quite a few dealers/shops around here that carry gear, they don't seem to have any of the better gear in stock. Brands like A*, RS Taichi, Held, etc. The best thing I've seen is Joe Rocket. Does anybody know which shops have the best selection? I've been to Heyser and Clinton and was not impressed.

Bought some gloves online recently and I'd rather not go through the hassle of ordering online again because these don't fit the way I'd like.

I've been ordering stuff through Ram Cycles lately. They always call me when the stuff arrives, and they get it quickly. I have gotten good customer service too. Just make sure you know what you want and ask questions if unsure. I don't think their prices are bad, but I haven't really compared or tried to get the rock bottom. My attitude about prices is that I may pay a little more at the local shop at times, but I'm doing my part to keep 'em nearby for when I need something on short notice.

I'm trying to avoid having to order stuff from a catalog without trying it on. I don't mind it for parts and things. The only piece of gear I have that I actually had a chance to try on was my A* SMX5 boots. I usually end up lucky with a size that fits or get it wrong. I don't like having to send things back just to wait on another size.

Does Ram Cycles carry gloves in stock?

can't beat online prices but the trade-in is the inability to try stuff on before hand. sux that we don't have much in MD. i'll usually make the trip to colemans in VA to check out gear.

I would have expected the Bmore/DC area to have more stocked shops. I'm a little disappointed.

I'd bet if someone would open a strictly parts/gear store it would be pretty successful.

Battley has some good gear. They're in Airpark area of Gburg, take a trip on a weekend down there to avoid clusterf*ck traffic.

I've found that Clinton Cycles has decent prices at least that match those of the online world. Just a matter if they've got things in stock. I'd much rather pay a buck or two more to get it THAT day and local as someone else mentioned, to keep them in business for when I need something asap.

IDK... there's got to be a reason why CycleGear opened in Norfolk, DE, NJ, 3 in PA but not a single one in the DC area....
